Emily is a Regular Faculty member in voice at Settlement Music School.
Emily also teaches weekly private lessons at her studio in West Philadelphia and in students’ homes on the Main Line. ¬†Emily focuses on the healthy and positive development of the student’s natural talents, including:
- Breath support and management
- Reducing and eliminating tension in the body and voice
- Expanding and strengthening vocal range
- Expression and musicality
- Study of foreign languages
- Issues of confidence and performance anxiety
Students will come away from lessons with a better understanding of how their voice works and a better command of their own abilities. Lessons are offered for 30, 45, or 60 minutes, and¬†consist of exercises to develop and strengthen specific skills followed by work on repertoire. Repertoire is tailored to the student’s interest and can include musical theater, art song, arias and opera scenes, American folk songs, and current pop and R&B songs. Lessons can also focus on preparing music for choir rehearsals and auditions.
Emily works with students ages 12 and up, and particularly enjoys working with adult singers.  For younger students (ages 12-15), Emily also offers group classes for 2-5 students. Group voice lessons are a fun and social way to learn basic singing skills in a low-pressure and supportive environment.
